Ongoing Projects
THE DICTIONARY PROJECT
- Since November 2007, our club has purchased over 700 dictionaries through The Dictionary Project and donated them to needy 3rd, 4th and 5th graders at Kendale Elementary School, Vineland K-8 Center, Seminole Elementary and Arcola Lake Elementary. Said one of the receiving students, “Wow, now we don’t have to use that big dictionary; we have our very own."
SEYMOUR GELBER ADULT DAY CARE CENTER
- Since 2005, club members and other volunteers have participated in various paint and wall repair projects at the Seymour Gelber Adult Day Care Center in Kendall.

END POLIO NOW CONCERT - Oct. 2009
STOCKINGS FOR THE TROOPS - Dec. '09, July '07
- Our club has made multiple donations to Stockings for the Troops, a program set up by the American Red Cross of Greater Miami & The Keys to provide a stocking this Holiday season for a service member, stationed in Iraq or Afghanistan, with every $10.00 donation it receives. The stockings include toiletries, snacks, books, and games.
CLEAN WATER PROJECT (BIOSAND WATER FILTER) - 2008
- Our club joined forces with The Rotary Club of Coral Gables and other clubs in South Florida to support a project started by Rotary District 6290 (Michigan) in Dominican Republic in 2001. In July and August 2008, 2,250 new BioSand Water Filters were delivered and installed in needy households throughout various western (south and central) provinces in D.R. -- bringing the total number of BioSand Water Filters installed in D.R. and Haiti to almost 19,000 since 2001. As a result, these families now have easy access to clean water for drinking, cooking and bathing
During a very short fundraising period, a total of $150,000 was raised ($101,000 from the various clubs involved and their respective districts plus $59,000 as a Matching Grant from the Rotary International Foundation).

MIAMI RESCUE MISSION - Feb. 2008
- Our club organized a collection to benefit the Miami Rescue Mission (a non-profit organization dedicated, since 1922, to helping the homeless and needy in South Florida). Two trucks were filled with donations of assorted items from club members and community residents -- total resalue value: $3,500 (est.).

- Our club made a $600.00 donation to Coaniquem Burn Center Aid for Children Foundation, a non-profit organization whose objectives are: to finance the integrated rehabilitation treatment of children, anywhere in the world, who have suffered burn accidents; to motivate scientific and technological research into burn prevention and treatment; to lead prevention campaigns, as well as other educational activities; and to finance programs and projects related to burn prevention and treatment.
AKAMIL NUTRITION PROJECT (HAITI) - May '07 (click for info)
- Our club made an $850.00 donation to this project undertaken by the Rotaract Club of the University of Miami to purchase the necessary equipment to process, pausterize and bag AKA-1000 or Akamil (a mixture made up of two parts of cereals (rice, corn, millet, wheat) and a part consisting in vegetables (beans) all blended into a powder) in Thomonde (central plateau of Haiti). This is a much-needed project in a country where, it is estimated, that over 80% of the population lives in extreme poverty.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY - Feb. '07
- Club members joined other volunteer groups and Habitat for Humanity in finishing two homes for low-income families at the Scott Carver Homes in Liberty City.
ENVISION THE POSSIBILITIES: MIAMI-DADE ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY AWARENESS 2007
- This event was held on February 9-10, 2007 (at FIU and The Women's Park) to raise awareness of the capability of assistive technology to empower, educate and include persons with disabilities in all aspects of life.
- Our club provided a $300.00 donation to assist with the hiring of sign language interpreters.
F.LO.W.E.R.S. (Future Ladies of Work, Educated, Responsible, Sophisticated)

- Led by Teacher Silvia Rappaport, this program exposes 5th and 6th grade female students at Liberty City Elementary School to career choices and society at large outside of their immediate community.
- Club members visited with F.L.O.W.E.R.S. in December 2006 and provided Christmas gifts for the students in the program.
HALLOWEEN OPEN HOUSE @ KENDALL STATION (MDPD)-Oct. '06
- Club members assisted officers of the Miami-Dade Police Department's Kendall Station in distributing candies and other goodies to the visiting trick-or-treaters and their families
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY (click for pictures)
- Club members lent a hand to Habitat in building a house for a needy family (July 2004).
EASTER SEALS (click for pictures)
- The club has donated flowers and plants and also donates gift bags on an ongoing basis.
